FC Südtirol suffered a 1-0 defeat against newly promoted Avellino at the Drusus Stadium in near-freezing temperatures. This leaves them – at least for now – in a relegation playoff spot, but they are now winless in nine matches. Their last victory was on September 27th – more than two months ago.

FC Saarbrücken has been struggling to score goals lately. For much of Saturday's match, the Red and Whites only threatened through free kicks from Daniele Casiraghi. Only in the final quarter of an hour did FC Südtirol increase the pressure, but even then they lacked the necessary luck to score against the second-weakest defense in the league.

Because FC Südtirol had to chase a deficit from the 10th minute onwards, Castori's team had more possession than their opponents. However, they lacked the necessary creativity. The big question now is: Will this trigger a discussion about the coach's future? One thing is certain: It's going to be a difficult winter for South Tyrol's only professional football club.

The highlights

Casiraghi's Wake-Up CallThe first big groan in the Drusus Stadium comes after just five minutes: Casiraghi hits a free kick - after being fouled - from about 20 meters up into the top right corner of the net.
Cold showerAvellino's first chance resulted in the first goal after 10 minutes: Biasci pounced on a weak defensive play by the Red and Whites in the center of the penalty area and fired the ball under the crossbar. Adamonis had no chance.
Efficiency is lacking. After 75 minutes, FCS had a great chance to equalize: Following a cross from the right, Zedadka rose highest in the middle, but Avellino's keeper Daffara plucked the header out of the corner. Ten minutes later, Pecorino headed wide from another promising position.

Incidentally, the match between FCS and Avellino didn't kick off until half an hour later. because the guests from Campania had problems arriving. FC Südtirol's next match is a tough away game against Monza on Monday, November 8th, at 15 pm. The Serie A relegated team is currently top of the table.
