This is what FC Südtirol pays in salaries

Serie B has published the salaries of the 20 second division teams. It is not surprising that FC Südtirol has no high earners in its ranks - and yet a look at the large salary ranking is astonishing.

The top of the salary table is made up of three clubs that were to be expected: Sassuolo, run by the Squinzi family of entrepreneurs, spends a whopping 33,4 million euros on its players, including national striker Domenico Berardi. This puts last year's first division club well ahead of Sampdoria (24,7 million), which, however, invests the most money in its coaching staff at 4,6 million euros. Palermo, financed with sheikh money, takes third place with total salaries of 23,7 million euros.

While the big clubs lead the rankings as expected, the clubs in the bottom half of the rankings only have a fraction of this money. At 3,4 million euros, bottom club Cittadella spends about a tenth of what the big club Sassuolo pays out in salaries.

FCS makes a lot out of little

FC Südtirol is in the top third of the Serie B table, but in the wage ranking it is in second to last place, just ahead of Cittadella. In their third season in the second division, the White-Reds are spending 4,1 million euros on player salaries and 600.000 euros on the salaries of the coaching staff. In total, this amounts to 4,7 million euros in wages - gross, that is, before taxes.

What is surprising is that FCS is even behind the four promoted teams Cesena (10,6 million), Juve Stabia (5,6), Carrarese (5,1) and Mantova (4,8). On Saturday, FC Südtirol will face current league leaders Pisa, who, at 18,7 million euros, have invested four times as much in players and coaches as the White-Reds.
