As FC Südtirol announced on Tuesday, Silvio Merkaj suffered a medial knee ligament strain during the 3-1 home win against Sampdoria. As a result, the Albanian had to be substituted at halftime. How long Merkaj will be out is not yet clear. After the international break, FC Südtirol's next match is a home game against Palermo on Sunday, September 14. Whether Merkaj will be fit by then is highly questionable.

The 27-year-old has been in top form under Fabrizio Castori in recent months. After scoring ten points last year, he's already found the net once this year. His aggressive style of play and speed make him a challenge for any defense. At the start of the season, Merkaj was a regular up front alongside Emanuele Pecorino. Now, Raphael Odogwu could get his first start.
