Shortly before kick-off: FCS match canceled

Approximately one and a half hours before kickoff, the Serie B match between FC Südtirol and Bari was called off due to the death of Pope Francis.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday at the age of 88. Italian football will therefore not be played on this day of mourning, as the Italian Football Association FIGC announced shortly before 11 a.m.

This affects not only four Serie A matches, but also the Serie B championship and all other Italian football leagues – including amateur football. This means that FC Südtirol will also not play its home game against Bari, scheduled for Easter Monday. This was an extremely short-notice cancellation for both teams, as the match was scheduled to kick off at 4:12.30 p.m.

While FCS has postponed its home game indefinitely, the cancellation is all the more bitter for Bari. The Apulian team and their fans will have to make the long journey to Bolzano once again.
