Manuel De Luca set to return to Serie B

Manuel De Luca has been sitting in the stands at Serie A club Cremonese for six months. Now there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for South Tyrol's best striker.

De Luca had led Cremonese to Serie A in early June with a brace in the playoff final against Spezia. His second adventure in the top flight began perfectly for the 27-year-old when he scored his first Serie A goal from the penalty spot. But then everything changed: Cremonese signed Jamie Vardy and suddenly had too many strikers in their squad, so De Luca was dropped from the starting lineup.

A return to his former club Sampdoria fell through at the beginning of September. Now, De Luca is on the verge of a winter transfer to Modena. The Yellow Canaries are currently sixth in Serie B and aim to achieve promotion with De Luca. According to multiple media reports, the deal is imminent. It is a loan with an option to buy, which would become mandatory if Modena achieves promotion.
