After game cancellation: FC Südtirol season extended

Due to the death of Pope Francis, all football matches in Italy were canceled on Easter Monday. The rescheduled dates have now been set – including that of FC Südtirol.

It was on Easter Monday around 11 o'clock, when Italy's Football Federation (FIGC) announced the cancellation of all championship matchesSince Pope Francis died that morning at the age of 88, a day of mourning was declared. Immediately afterward, the schedulers got to work.

A solution was quickly presented for Serie A. The four first-division matches—Torino vs. Udinese, Cagliari vs. Fiorentina, Genoa vs. Lazio, and Parma vs. Juventus—were scheduled for next Wednesday (18.30:XNUMX p.m.). The canceled Serie C matches will also be rescheduled for the same day.

Full program in the second league

Since most second-division clubs are already back in action on April 25, finding a replacement date in Serie B proved significantly more difficult. League bosses and club officials consulted for hours before reaching an agreement that evening.

All ten matches of the 34th round, which were originally scheduled to take place on Easter Monday, will be added to the end of the season on Tuesday, May 13. The league finale was originally scheduled for the previous Friday. The start of the promotion playoffs (May 15) and the play-off games (May 17) are now expected to be postponed.

This means that FC Südtirol now also has planning security. Next Saturday, they face Juve Stabia at home, then travel to Palermo (May 1st), play Cosenza at home (May 4th), play Pisa away (May 9th), and finally, on the evening of May 13th, play the canceled match against Bari. This match was called off on Monday about an hour and a half before the scheduled time.
