The protests were in vain: Raphael Kofler (2nd from right) had to leave the pitch early against Empoli.

S+Why Kofler's red card was no coincidence

FCS coach Fabrizio Castori was furious about the referee's performance after the 2-1 defeat to Empoli. While he explicitly ruled out the red card against Raphael Kofler (5th minute), the coach refused to admit his own mistakes. It was obvious that the FCS defense was on the hook from the start.

FC Südtirol suffered an unfortunate 2-1 defeat against Serie A relegated side Empoli. After the match, coach Fabrizio Castori lambasted the referee. But the match against the Tuscan side revealed much more than just a questionable—and, for Castori, uncontrollable—performance by the referees.
