With Serie A experience: Obermais signs striker

Following Michael Seaton's departure, FC Obermais had a vacant attacking position. Now the Serie D club has signed a new player. The new arrival brings a wealth of experience from professional leagues.

Shortly before Christmas, it was announced that Michael Seaton would no longer play for Obermais following his suspension (he received a four-match ban for insulting a referee). The contract with the former Jamaican international was terminated. Seaton's next destination is still unclear. The trail leads back to Germany. Most recently, Seaton was on trial with Bonner SC.

FCO's sporting directors were not idle. They contacted several players, and ultimately Christian Platzer and Lukas Höller reached an agreement with a Slovakian. Nikolas Spalek is transferring from Giulianova to the spa town. The 28-year-old brings a wealth of experience from both Austria and abroad. "He's a very interesting player who recently made a few poor career decisions. He's eager to play and prove himself at FCO," Platzer stated. SportNews.

Slovakian Champion & European Championship Qualifier

Spalek, who is slated to play as a right winger, won the Slovakian championship with Zilina at the age of 19 (31 games, 9 goals). Subsequently, he not only played in the Champions League qualifiers (scoring a goal against Copenhagen) and 14 times in the Europa League, but was also called up to the Slovakian national team. However, he did not make an appearance for them.

Spalek then moved to Brescia, where he played alongside Mario Balotelli and helped the team gain promotion to Serie A. There, he made 25 appearances and scored two goals. After five years in Brescia, he moved on to Serbia, Hungary, and Slovakia. In the summer, Spalek returned to Italy, joining Giulianova (Abruzzo) in Serie D. Now he's moving to South Tyrol. "Our young, somewhat inexperienced, but high-quality and hungry team will thus gain exactly the experience we need in the fight to stay in the league," the club stated.

Spalek is expected to give FC Obermais an attacking boost ahead of the crucial weeks. After their away game in Mestre on Sunday (2:30 pm), the Merano-based team faces four direct matches in their fight to avoid relegation.
