South Tyrol has a new football hotspot
South Tyrolean football has a new hotspot – besides the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano, where FC Südtirol plays its home games in Serie B. Things have been quite lively at the Lahn sports ground in Obermais in recent weeks. The fans are welcoming the move up to Serie D.

The highlight from the perspective of the Obermais officials was the Home game on Sunday against Treviso. The league leaders brought around 180 ultras with them to Obermais, and many other spectators also made the pilgrimage to the Lahn River (despite the rainy weather). It goes without saying that their own "Curva Sud" section was packed to capacity.
"The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was great fun to play in front of such a crowd. I wouldn't mind if it were like that more often," said Marco Paulmichl after the match. "But every game is special in front of our fans anyway." In terms of attendance, Obermais has definitely benefited from the move to Serie D. Even back in their Oberliga days, the Lahn stadium was often packed, and now it's the norm. Over 1000 spectators came to the first home game against Mestre, and the numbers have been almost as good recently.
Small details prevent a point increase
What's missing to keep the euphoria going in South Tyrol are points. Obermais has suffered four consecutive defeats, managing only one point from their last six matches. This has dropped the team into a direct relegation spot. Coach Flavio Toccoli spoke of a bitter disappointment after the 0-1 loss against Treviso: "The result is disappointing, but the performance was anything but bad. We lost against the league leaders with our heads held high."As has often been the case, a set piece proved to be Obermais' undoing against Treviso. "We played well, but then we lacked the final touch. We need to improve the small details, such as defending set pieces," said Toccoli. Paulmichl echoed this sentiment: "We conceded another silly goal from a set piece."
