Lega Pro: FC Südtirol suffered a bitter home defeat in the first leg

In the first leg, all players were available to Mister Rastelli, with the exception of the suspended Branca. Furlan moved into the starting line-up in place of Branca. Meanwhile, Pro-Vercelli coach Cristiano Scozzola had to do without Bolzano midfielder Manuel Scavone, who was missing in Bolzano due to a yellow card suspension. The Drusus Stadium was almost sold out - also thanks to the 350 guests who came with them.

The match started slowly, with relatively little happening on the field. Pro Vercelli was very secure in defense, Bolzano's attacking game was unable to gain momentum. After 30 minutes, the White-Reds had their first big chance: Fink played a long pass to Minesso, who played the ball into the middle, but found no taker. Four minutes later, Pro Vercelli missed the 1-0 lead when Marchi headed Greco's corner pass over the crossbar. As a result, the home team put more and more pressure on the opponent's goal: in the 38th minute, Turchetta advanced on the left wing, beat an opponent in front of the edge of the penalty area and shot past the defense towards the goal, but Pro Vercellis saved Goalkeeper Russo skilfully rounded off the ball with a brilliant save. A minute later, Fink tried a free kick from Pederzoli, but he too was denied by Russo.

Cosenza scores

In the second half of the game, the guests started like fire fighters and took the lead in the 50th minute with a header from Cosenza. The FCS immediately launched a counterattack. Minesso fed Furlan in the penalty area, who also shot immediately. But goalkeeper Russo also fended off this ball confidently. As a result, Coach Rastelli made a few changes: Veratti came instead of Turchetta and Francesco Vasallo instead of Furlan. In the 68th minute, Pro Vercelli had the chance to make it 2-0, but Facchin was able to save Iemello's shot. Just four minutes later, Ardizzone launched a quick counterattack, but his shot went wide of the top corner. FC Südtirol then threw everything forward, but the defense in front of the opponent's goal seemed insurmountable. In the 85th minute, Martin crossed from left to right to Cappelletti, who posed no threat to Russo. The Rastelli troops could no longer prevent the defeat.

The second leg will be played next Saturday at the Piola Stadium in Vercelli.

For FC Südtirol there was nothing to gain from the first leg of the playoff final for promotion to Serie B on Sunday. The White-Reds lost 0-1 in front of their home crowd. The second leg will take place next Saturday in Vercelli.
