Oberliga season 2012-13: This is SSV Ahrntal

The team from St. Johann has been playing in the top league for four years and has always achieved a top 10 placement. Last year, however, they only managed to stay in the league on the penultimate matchday. At the beginning of last season, Markus Rieder replaced Peter Niederkofler in the coaching bench. In March Rieder resigned and was replaced by his assistant coach Reinhard Niederkofler. Now Johannes Piffrader is supposed to lead Italy's northernmost league club back into the top half of the league table.

In the 2008/2009 season, SSV Ahrntal made it into the top league for the first time in the club's history, where the Pusterers have been playing ever since. The sporting director of the first team, Reinhard Oberschmied, clearly defined the team's goals: “We played poorly in the second half of the season last year and this year we don't want to have anything to do with the relegation battle. Our goal is to secure a position in the midfield.”

Additions

In addition to coach Johannes Piffrader, Thomas Ritsch will return to “Toule” after spending a year with league rivals Brixen. Patrick Kofler (St. Georgen), Patrick Psenner (Sand in Taufers), Jan Plaickner (Kiens) and Alex Piffrader (St. Georgen Youth) also moved to the Ahrntal club. The “Teldra” will also incorporate some players from the junior ranks into the squad: three midfielders, Benjamin Oberhollenzer, Simon Weger and Martin Niederstätter, will be introduced to the first team in the coming season.

Goalkeeper Andreas Hainz will keep the box clean for Reischach next season. For Christoph Maurberger, however, his career is probably over due to knee problems and cartilage damage. Jürgen Großgasteiger will primarily act as an assistant coach. Leo Frisch (Sand in Taufers), Daniel Masoni (Steinhaus) and Lukas Testor (Prettau) are also leaving SSV Ahrntal.

Start of training and test matches The Pusterers started preparing for the season on July 16th and have played three test games so far. In all three games (Kiens, Stegen, Bruneck) the “Teldra” retained the upper hand. Next Saturday, SSV Ahrntal is hosting a tournament, the participating teams are SSV Pichl Gsies, ASV Prettau, SSV Mühlwald and of course the host team. The first round of the Italian Cup will finally follow on August 19th, where the Ahrntalers will meet the national league team Pichl Gsies.
