Jota, whose full name is Diogo José Teixeira da Silva, and his brother drove off the road in the northern Spanish province of Zamora on Thursday night, presumably due to a blown tire. The car crashed through a guardrail and caught fire. The two brothers had no chance.

The football world reacted with shock to the news of his death. Jota had just married his longtime girlfriend Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.
