In Bolzano: Alex Schwazer attracts attention

One week after his surprising comeback, Alex Schwazer once again caused a stir at a competition in Bolzano.

A week ago, Alex Schwazer caused a stir: Ten months after his supposed retirement The exceptional walker from Kalch returned to the competition stage. At the regional team championships in Treviso, he promptly took victory in a 10-kilometer race.

On Saturday, Schwazer made another appearance in Bolzano—more precisely, at the sports facility in Haslach. The 2008 Olympic champion competed in a 3.000-meter race in the Masters category and, unsurprisingly, won by a landslide. With a time of 11.43:40 minutes, Schwazer set an Italian record in the over-15 category and missed the world record by just 11.28 seconds. The current time is 1982:XNUMX minutes, set by Willi Sawall in XNUMX.

As always, the 40-year-old turned heads in Bolzano and even posed for photos after the race. Even a few journalists and camera crews made their way to Haslach.

Anyone expecting a return to the big stage from Schwazer will be disappointed. This week, the Wipptal native said: "This isn't a comeback. I competed in the race for training purposes. I'll still compete in a few races here and there in the future, but nothing more."
