Canoe World Cup: Weger, Luther and Unterthurner in the semi-finals

Jakob Weger (18) achieved the fastest time of all participants with two penalty seconds for contact at gate number 9 in 82,45 seconds. For him that meant first place in the qualification. “I am very happy with today’s performance. The previous training sessions weren't so good, so I'm even more satisfied and motivated. I will try to stick to my tactics in the semi-finals and do my best,” said Jakob Weger after his brilliant performance.

The two young SCM paddlers, Valentin Luther (15) and Martin Unterthurner (17), had a great debut in their first major canoe slalom event today. Luther took 89,57th place in the qualification in 2 seconds (14 penalty seconds) and Martin Unterthuner came 94,69nd in 4 (22 penalty seconds). 40 paddlers reached the semi-finals. The best 10 in the semi-finals will compete in the finals on Saturday. The SCM trio will also compete in the kayak one-team race for Italy on Saturday.

Matthias Weger was eliminated in the U23 age group

Matthias Weger didn't have a good day in the U23 age group. The 20-year-old Schenner, who competed for Austria, was eliminated in the kayak single sculls in 48th place. In the first qualifying run he touched a goal post twice, for which he received a four-second penalty. With two penalty seconds he would have made it into the semi-finals.

“Unfortunately today wasn’t my day. I have had pain in my elbow for three days. Despite the pain, I was able to prepare and warm up relatively well for the first run and set a good time up to gate number 12, which I touched, and then continued to the finish. Unfortunately, I was given two penalty seconds at goal 13, which were not withdrawn despite a protest. In the second run I was no longer able to pull it together and unfortunately I was eliminated early,” said Matthias Weger regretfully.
