Exciting duel for the natural track toboggan crown

There is already a lot of activity on the new “Bucovina” luge track. A natural track toboggan race has never taken place here before; each nation tries to complete as many training runs as possible before the track is closed for racing. At 1012 meters and eleven curves, the track is one of the longest in the World Cup and promises an exciting World Cup finale.

There is something new this year. For the first time in years, Patrick Pigneter is not going into the final phase of the World Cup decision as the leader. Hannes Clara is in first place with a one point lead. To deprive Pigneter of his eighth overall World Cup victory, Hannes Clara would have to beat his teammate at least once. Thomas Kammerlander is 24 or 25 points behind the duo at the top and could still have a say in the decision. The first official training runs on Friday will reveal who got used to the “Bucovina” track the fastest.

Lavrentjeva wants to extend the series and set a record

The situation for the women is completely different: Ekatharina Lavrentjeva from Russia can only be taken mathematically for her tenth success in the overall World Cup. However, with two victories in Vatra Dornei she would break her own record of eleven World Cup victories in a row. If she prevails in Vatra Dornei, then that would be her victories eleven and twelve en suite.

However, Lavrentjeva has not yet competed in a race in Vatra Dornei and she also has to find her way around the new track. The fight for the places behind the Russian will take place between the South Tyroleans Greta Pinggera, Evelin Lanthaler and Melanie Schwarz. Over the course of the season, the German Michaela Maurer has also worked her way up to this trio and a podium place is now realistically close.

Will Pigneter/Clara strike in the doubles competition?

In the doubles competition, the Russians Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev were unable to maintain their form of recent years throughout the season and were unable to seriously endanger their eternal rivals Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara. Only once, in Umhausen, did they finish ahead of the South Tyroleans. The Austrians Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf are the only ones who could still intercept Pigneter/Clara, but they are already 75 points behind.

The training runs start on Friday, February 22nd from 10 a.m. The first preliminary decisions will take place on Friday (from 13.00 p.m.) with the qualifying runs for the women and doubles.

Exciting duel for the natural track toboggan crown

Hannes Clara from Val Badia and Patrick Pigneter from Fiè will fight for the natural track toboggan crown in Vatra Dornei. There will be a big showdown at the last two World Cup stages on the “Bucovina” toboggan run in Romania this weekend and in the middle of next week.
