As expected, the Brazilian champions beat the hosts Seattle Sounders 2-1 in Group B last night (CEST), thus securing a successful start just like Paris St. Germain. The French Champions League winner had previously defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0.
Botafogo's Jair Cunha (28') headed home a free-kick cross from Alex Telles. Igor Jesus (44') also headed home a Vitinho cross shortly before halftime. The lead could have been even bigger, but Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei was instrumental in preventing it. Cristian Roldan (75') pulled one back with a deflected header, keeping the game exciting until the very end.
No goals for Palmeiras against Porto
Group A, on the other hand, is still lacking in highlights at the Club World Cup. After the goalless draw between Al Ahly and Lionel Messi's club Inter Miami Last night, Palmeiras and FC Porto faced each other in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and there were no goals. Claudio Ramos, the Portuguese reserve goalkeeper, stood out, replacing injured captain Diogo Costa and driving the Brazilians to despair.Porto and Palmeiras fought a hard-fought duel. © APA / FRANCOIS NEL
Already on Sunday afternoon the FC Bayern with a 10-0 goal gala against Auckland City Italy's representatives at the Club World Cup, Inter and Juventus, do not start the tournament until Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
