The league star leaves FC Südtirol in despair

FC Südtirol's first defeat of the 2025/26 season is a reality. In the clash against Palermo, almost 5.000 fans created a fantastic atmosphere – and the league's star put on a great show.

He has played for highly decorated German clubs such as Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen during his career, and has also laced up his boots in Serie A. He was also the top scorer in Serie B and is widely considered the league's biggest star. Joel Pohjanpalo impressively demonstrated why on Sunday at the Drusus Stadium. The Finnish striker scored a brace to give his Palermo FC a 2-0 victory against FC Südtirol.

Blessed is he who has such a striker in his ranks! Indeed, it's a pleasure to watch the striker – who enjoys sharing a beer with the fans after games and is therefore considered a cult striker – at work. Pohjanpalo was involved in every dangerous move Palermo made on Sunday, sending the visiting fans into overdrive on several occasions.

More than 600 of them gathered at the Drusus Stadium, even though Tifosi living in Sicily were not allowed into the arena. The reason for this was a dispute between two Palermo ultra groups and the associated fear of riots, which is why the Bolzano police took precautionary measures. which caused a stir beforehand.

Palermo shows its muscles

The match in front of almost 5.000 fans is quickly recounted. After just 80 seconds, the FCS goal rang after Pohjanpalo's first goal. Former striker legend Filippo Inzaghi's team had everything under control after that, demonstrating with their dominant possession-based football why they're considered a major title contender this year. FC Südtirol, which surprisingly started with the recently injured Silvio Merkaj, managed to build more forward pressure in the second half, but without really posing a threat. Pohjanpalo sealed the deal with his second goal shortly before the final whistle.

80 seconds...... Pohjanpalo needed to open the scoring at the Drusus Stadium. Le Douaron flicked a corner to the far post, where the iconic Finnish striker was unmarked to head in the 1-0 lead.
The second prankIn the second half, FCS pressed on Palermo's goal, but without posing a real threat. Pohjanpalo sealed the victory. Molina lost the ball in the opponent's penalty area, then Palumbo made Kofler and Masiello look lousy. Pohjanpalo converted the cross to make it 2-0 (80').
