Tramin aims for historic Oberliga record

On Sunday, the traditional Tramin club kicks off the new Oberliga season with a home game against Rovereto. The Unterland team has a historic goal in mind this year.

Tramin remained true to its core this summer, leaving the squad largely unchanged. While the core of the team remained intact, only a few new additions were made. The biggest change is on the coaching bench: With Andreas Viehweider as the new head coach and captain Simon Greif as assistant coach, a fresh duo takes over the sporting responsibilities.

"It's great that we were able to retain most of our team. We have a great core of players from our own village, complemented by some talented youngsters from the surrounding area," explained President Peter Gutmann at the team presentation at main sponsor Roner, adding: "We want to have another quiet season this year, one in which we're not in the running for the bottom of the table right from the start. We've had very successful years with outstanding results behind us – building on that would be great, but it's not a must."

Will the all-time Oberliga record fall?

Looking ahead to the new season, Tramin has a very special target in mind – namely first place in the all-time Oberliga standings, currently held by the regional league team Salurn. While the club from the southernmost village in the province sits atop this particular ranking with 1.520 points, Tramin is just behind with 1.476 points. So, 44 points behind – if the Black and Whites build on their performances of recent years, this goal doesn't seem impossible.

"We don't want to put any pressure on anyone. The record is certainly something very special, but no one is demanding it this year. What we want is to show our spectators beautiful, entertaining football—if we also manage to break the points record, that would of course be the icing on the cake," Gutmann concluded.

Incidentally, the long-standing partnership with main sponsor Roner demonstrates that continuity is important in Tramin, not only on but also off the pitch. Since 1973 – that is, for over 50 years – the distillate producer from the village has been the football club's main sponsor. A collaboration that is unparalleled in South Tyrolean amateur football.
