Now it's official: Kiens faces the bitter step of being relegated to the 1st Amateur League. The Pustertal team is the second team to be relegated from the regional league, after Riffian Kuens. Before the clash with Gitschberg Jochtal, staying in the league was still mathematically possible for Kiens. However, on Saturday, a 1-6 defeat sealed their relegation.
The game was already as good as over after just over half an hour – at which point, Gitschberg Jochtal was already leading 3-0. Although there was a brief glimmer of hope after Alexander Falkensteiner's goal, it wasn't enough for Kiens to secure a point. For Gitschberg, striker Lukas Hofer scored a brace – his 20th and 21st goals of the season.
Excitement in the title fight
At the other end of the table, right at the top, Val Gardena celebrated a narrow 1-0 victory over Scena, putting them ahead. Ahrntal is currently three points behind the Ladins, and Bruneck four. The other two top teams will meet in a direct duel on Sunday.Manuel Scavelli celebrated staying in the league with Tscherms Marling.
Tscherms Marling, on the other hand, celebrated securing their place in the league on Saturday. The Etschtal team defeated bottom-placed Riffian Kuens 4-1, thus securing their place in the regional league next season. Latzfons Verdings can still hope for relegation. Although the Eisacktal team suffered a 1-2 defeat to Terlan, they are four points away from safety with two games remaining.
