The dream comeback of a Latsch figurehead

At the start of the second half of the regional league season, Latsch celebrated a last-minute victory. The protagonist was a player who had actually been retired from football for over two seasons.

Local amateur football has made a spectacular comeback. In the regional league match between Latsch and Ahrntal, Alex Medda was substituted on shortly before the end with the score at 1:1 and scored the winning goal for his Latsch team a few moments later.

The special thing about it: The long-time winger from Vinschgau actually ended his career in the summer of 2022. We talked to the offensive artist.

SportNews: How did you come to this decision?

Alex Medda: "I hung up my boots in the summer of 2022 and was active as a youth coach and also played with the small-field team. I never lost my passion for football and so after a conversation with Christian Pixner, under whom I had already played, I decided to start playing again."

Please describe your dream debut.

"It was a perfect debut in the truest sense of the word. I was substituted in the 87th minute and scored the winning goal with my first touch of the ball just two minutes later. Let's keep it up."

What do you expect from the match against Gitschberg Jochtal?

"I expect a difficult away game against a tough opponent. We have started the second half of the season well and want to build on last weekend's performance. We want to get the three points."

What are the team’s goals and your personal goals?

"We don't want to have anything to do with relegation and want to secure a place in the upper midfield. Personally, I want to stay injury-free and just have a lot of fun playing football."
