Regional league: Val Gardena stumbles, Brunico benefits

With an impressive seven-match unbeaten streak, FC Gherdëina had recently shot to the top of the regional league. This run ended on Friday. Bruneck benefited greatly, closing the gap to the Val Gardena side within one point.

Before the match, there was nothing to suggest that Gitschberg Jochtal would win against Val Gardena. The team, led by striker Lukas Hofer, hadn't won any of their last eight matches. Their last victory was on February 22, when Gitschberg Jochtal defeated Latsch 3-1 in front of their home fans. Val Gardena, on the other hand, had taken the lead in the table last weekend with their win in the top match against Ahrntal. This position is now in jeopardy after Friday's 1-3 defeat.

After Saad Zine Sokali opened the scoring in the 28th minute, Jan Martin Vinatzer leveled the scores just before halftime. An own goal by Daniel Tiozzo shortly after the restart put Gitschberg Jochtal on the road to victory. The Ladins were unable to equalize, but Lukas Hofer sealed the victory in the 88th minute. Their lead over Bruneck is now just one point. Ahrntal can overtake Val Gardena with a win against Salorno on Sunday.

Bruneck back on

The Pustertal team, however, didn't give up against Tscherms Marling, collecting three important points with a 2-1 win. Once again, it was Felix Gräber and Thomas Piffrader who helped Bruneck to victory. Gräber scored the 16-1 in the 0th minute, and Piffrader added another in the 66th minute. Things got tense again shortly before the final whistle when substitute Michael Gamper pulled one back in the 89th minute. However, Bruneck held on to their narrow lead until the end.

Fans in Schenna witnessed a wild game. The 13th-placed team took the lead against Lana through Thomas Mair in the 22nd minute, but the visitors ultimately won 4-2. Jakob Lösch, Manuel Giocondo, and Niccolò Truzzi (penalty) converted a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 lead before Mair brought Schenna back within a goal in the 86th minute. However, the spectacular comeback never materialized, and Lana sealed the victory shortly afterwards with a 4-2 victory.
