Naturns and the royal transfer of the regional league

Since Saturday afternoon, it's been clear: SSV Naturns will be one of the favorites to win the title in the 2025/26 regional league season. The Lower Vinschgau team has completed the league's biggest transfer.

The frowns must have grown considerable in the Naturno clubhouse when it was announced during the second half of the season that Matthias Bacher would be retiring after the end of the league season. This not only marked the end of one of South Tyrol's best strikers, but also Naturno's life insurance. Last season alone, Bacher scored 15 goals.

In their search for a successor, Naturns quickly zeroed in on one person: Thomas Mair, the exceptional striker from Schenna, who scored no fewer than 21 goals in the regional league last season. After weeks of wrangling, it was confirmed on Saturday afternoon: Mair will wear the Naturns jersey next season.

"Proarer," as he's known to everyone, was once a great badminton talent, but at the age of 19, he decided to focus entirely on football. One of his first mentors on the Schenna first team was Patrick Fliri, who is now the coach of Naturno. Over the years, Mair, a goal-scoring machine, attracted considerable interest, and he briefly played for Virtus Bozen in Serie D and later for St. Pauli in the Oberliga. Now, his adventure in Naturno begins.

With Mair, the Lower Vinschgau team has landed the biggest signing of the regional league, sending a clear signal to their rivals that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the title fight. Especially since Naturno has landed another top-class player in Kevin Buzi: The full-back and wing player comes from top-flight side Virtus Bozen.
