New coach, but not only: Tramin plans its future

Tramin is one of the most dazzling names in South Tyrolean amateur football. This summer, the team will be undergoing some changes – both on and off the pitch.

Tramin has just over 3.000 inhabitants. Yet, this small village in the Unterland region is one of South Tyrol's football hotspots. The men in black and white have been at the top of the Oberliga table for years, and this year they are again: they are currently only three points behind second place. Continuity is paramount at Tramin. Nevertheless, some drastic changes are taking place this summer.

The biggest change concerns the coaching position. After four highly successful years, the time has come for Mauro Bandera on the sidelines of Tramin this year. "He really did a great job here and we are very grateful," says Dieter Chistè, the sporting director, and adds: "We are of the opinion that the team needs some new impetus."

This new impetus will come from an old acquaintance. Starting next season, Andreas Viehweider have the say on the Tramin coaching bench. "Fiffi," as he is known in South Tyrolean football, was previously assistant coach in Tramin, back then alongside Hugo Pomella. After stints in Aldein/Petersberg (1st Amateur League) and Riffian Kuens (Regional League), he is now drawn to the south of South Tyrol. Viehweider receives support from Roberto Ceron, who is currently working as an assistant coach at league rivals St. Pauls.

A new dual role

But that's not the only big change coming to Tramin. There's also some news behind the scenes. And so, exceptional striker Alex Pfitscher will be actively supporting sporting director Dieter Chistè in the future. "We are very happy that Alex is now helping us in this role! Everyone in South Tyrol's football scene knows and appreciates him, and conversely, Alex has the best contacts. Of course, he will also remain with us as a goalscorer," explains Chistè, who plans to hand over the role of sporting director entirely to Pfitscher sooner or later.

Andreas Viehweider will lead Tramin into the 2025/26 season as the new coach.

The duo has been working on the squad for the new season for several weeks now. However, there will be no major changes in terms of players. Only the departure of Davide Caldato is already decided. He will be a father for the second time in August and therefore wants to slow down a bit. Simon Greif There is a question mark, but in Tramin they are hoping that the charismatic captain will stay for another season.

The native tribe around Stefan Frötscher, Rafael Pomella, Simon Dissertori and Nils Mayr remains on board anyway. External service providers such as Jan Obexer and Philipp Rabensteiner have also already confirmed, including the Kalterer Connection Tobias Sinn and Claus Drescher and the Aldeiner striker David Great are likely to stay in Tramin. "We're currently still looking for a defender," Chistè concludes.
