They were the teams that put on a big show last season in the regional league. Ahrntal won the championship title in the highest South Tyrolean league last May, while Val Gardena secured a spot in the Oberliga via a playoff between the runners-up. On Sunday, the two teams met for the first time in the Oberliga – and the points were split 1-1.
Youngster Lukas Kofler gave Ahrntal the lead with a tap-in after 17 minutes, but before halftime, Val Gardena's top scorer Jan Martin Vinatzer equalized after a pass from Walid Sogheir. Sogheir received a second yellow card shortly before the end, but the score remained unchanged. This was partly due to Stefan Pareiner's shot hitting the crossbar in the closing seconds.

Curiously, there was only one South Tyrolean victory this Sunday, and that was by Virtus Bozen. The Talferstadt team won 2-1 in their away match at Comano, with goals from Matteo Timpone and Fabian Zandonatti. Player-coach Elis Kaptina's team is thus moving ever closer to the top and is now in third place.
South Tyroleans are having a hard time
Bozen FC drew 1-1 with Union Trento, conceding the goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. Partschins (0-0 against Levico), Tramin (1-1 against Mori), and San Paolo (1-1 against Lavis) also drew, while Bressanone (0-1 against Benacense) and San Giorgio (1-3 against Rovereto) suffered defeats.Oberliga, 9th matchday
