Regional tournament: No victory for South Tyrol's juniors

The 61st edition of the regional tournament kicked off on Saturday. While the South Tyrolean selections didn't celebrate a victory, they still recorded strong results.

The U15 team faced a tough challenge right from the start against the tournament favorites from Veneto – and earned a strong 1-1 draw. Wolfgang Crepaz's team took the lead in the first half thanks to a tap-in from Matzoll (19th minute), but conceded an equalizer in the 74th minute of the second half following a corner. Presotto broke through in the penalty area, rose highest, and headed in to make it 1-1. In stoppage time, there was another scramble in front of Sanfelici, which almost made it 1-2 – but the woodwork saved the day for the third time in the match. An important draw for Crepaz and Maraner's team.

The U17 team from South Tyrol got off to a less successful start, suffering a 2-3 defeat against Veneto. Mustafà gave the opposition an early lead (5'), and Bajgora equalized after a fine pass from Larcher (13'). Both teams then missed chances. After the break, Visentin headed home a corner (48'). Bolzano tried everything, but Veneto doubled their lead to 3-1 through Mustafà shortly before the final whistle (48'). In stoppage time, Corrà conceded a curious own goal following a throw-in from Osanna (90+1').

U23 women and U19 give up the lead

The U23 women's team suffered a similar fate. Although the South Tyrolean team got off to a dream start, taking the lead with a nerveless penalty from Zipperle (6th minute), their rivals from Veneto then turned things around. De Muri equalized a few minutes before halftime (37th minute), and Tollardo finally turned the game around just four minutes after halftime (49th minute). Poli finally put the final touch on the game with a goal to make it 3-1 in the 87th minute.

The U19 team also surrendered a lead. Seibstock put the South Tyroleans ahead in the 18th minute and even had chances to make it 2-0. However, Lo Casto equalized shortly before halftime. The second half saw a thrilling exchange of blows, but the South Tyrolean team held on for the draw – a valuable point against a strong opponent. On Sunday, the boys' team will face the teams from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, while the women's team will face the team from Trento.
