Brixen coach Manuel Sullmann saw his B team go down against Olimpia Meran from the 1st Amateur League.

South Tyrolean Cup: Brixen embarrassment in Merano

In the shadow of the Oberliga clash between Obermais and Partschins, the last two remaining round of 16 matches of the Volksbank Landespokal took place on Wednesday evening.

Oberliga side Brixen suffered a nasty 1-5 defeat at Olimpia Merano. Even though the cathedral city team fielded a supposedly B team, such a result is a disgrace for the venerable Oberliga club.

Olimpia Merano, on the other hand, which plays in the first amateur league, is doing well in the cup again this year. The spa town team is in the quarterfinals and can therefore still dream of defending its title. Incidentally, the man of the evening was Merano striker Abdenaim En Naimi, who contributed a whopping four goals to the victory.

In the second match of the evening, the lower-ranked team also prevailed. Mölten Vöran (3rd Amateur League) defeated Reischach (2nd Amateur League).

South Tyrolean Cup: Round of 16

Mölten Vöran – Reischach 2:0
1:0 Markus Innerhofer (39th), 2:0 Hannes Innerhofer (86th)

Olimpia Meran – SSV Brixen 5:2
