Noah Mayr has not had an easy few months. The then 18-year-old football talent moved to Altamura in Apulia a year ago with high hopes. But while the club bagged the Serie D championship title, the Perdoniger had to do hard rehabilitation work. A cruciate ligament tear cost him a year of his career. In an interview with SportNews The midfielder from the FCS youth team talks about this time.
Noah Mayr, you moved to Apulia last year. Why so far south?
"There were other options in the north. But I wanted to get away from home and sort things out myself, take the next step. Altamura offered a good sporting opportunity because the club was one of the favorites to win the Serie D championship. Originally, a move to Serie D was also an idea, but the overall package didn't fit at any club."
In Altamura you suffered a serious injury after the preparation. What happened?
"It has been 10 months since I tore my cruciate ligament. I deliberately took my time. My knee is holding up now. Preparations are going well. Most recently we were in Abruzzo for 18 days at a training camp. I always played in the test matches and I feel good."

How did the months following the injury go?
"I did my rehab in Bolzano last year. In between, I went to Altamura every now and then. When I was fit again, I was able to use the structures of FC Südtirol. In the spring, I was able to train with the Primavera team. I am very grateful to FC Südtirol for that."
What is your situation now in Altamura?
"The club has given me a contract until 2026. That is not something to be taken for granted and the club deserves a big thank you for that. It is a great opportunity for me."
Altamura is a small town near Bari. What is life like in Puglia?
"Very good, I must say. There is a great enthusiasm for football throughout the city. In general, the whole region is completely crazy about football. You can see that football is extremely important to the people here. Our club is well positioned, we work very professionally. We also have a lot of fans."
