Trembling until the end: Padova promoted to Serie B

A traditional club will be playing in the second Italian league again next season: Padova, founded in 1910, won a thrilling showdown against Vicenza in the A division of Serie C on Friday evening.

Before the final matchday, Vicenza was two points behind Padova and had to hope for a slip-up from their local rivals. Although they only drew 15-0 with 0th-placed Lumezzane, promotion was never in jeopardy, as Vicenza lost 1-3 in Trento at the same time. In the final standings, Padova, which last played in Serie A in 1996 and last played in Serie B in 2019, finished three points ahead of Vicenza.

Padova joins Virtus Entella, which secured promotion from Division B almost two weeks ago. Avellino has also already been confirmed as promoted from Division C. Now, one team is missing, which will play in the second division next season. The teams ranked 2nd to 10th in their respective divisions will compete for this spot in the playoffs.
