In the final against Kaltern: Scandalous scene surrounding Aosta goalkeeper

The IHL final series between Kaltern and Aosta is unrivaled in terms of tension and excitement. But things turned ugly in Game 3 on Thursday.

The ice was literally on fire between Kaltern and Aosta on Thursday evening. More than 500 fans in the Raiffeisen Arena witnessed a final match that was hard to beat in terms of intensity and emotion. However, the visitors from Aosta, in particular, repeatedly overstepped the bounds. The team, adorned with numerous foreign players, drew the ire of Kaltern's players and fans with numerous hidden fouls. The absolute low point: In the middle period, Aosta's goalie Alessandro Tura badly slapped Kaltern's Florian Wieser down.

What happened? Off-field, Wieser circled the Aosta goal and exchanged a few "friendly" words with goalie Tura. Then Tura suddenly lost it and knocked Wieser down with a stick blow placed somewhere between his shoulder and helmet.

Kaltern's top scorer lay dazed, and tempers flared in the arena. However, because the referees weren't aware of the incident and there's no video evidence in this league, Tura's outburst went unpunished. Normally, such an offense would result in a match penalty and likely a lengthy suspension.

The sporting reaction

Kaltern showed the right reaction on the ice and won the final 3 with 3:2. This means the Oltards have reduced the deficit to 7:1 in the best-of-2 series and can even the score on Saturday in Aosta. There's certainly plenty of fire in this final series...
